Hagastaden, Stockholm’s world-class Life Science district

Hagastaden is home to world-leading education and research at Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital. It is home to over 150 life science companies (an increase of 50% since 2010) and its infrastructure and ecosystem have attracted several large companies such as Pfizer and AstraZeneca. 

Companies setting up here can benefit from the synergies between three universities: Karolinska Institutet (ranked 6th in the world), Stockholm University, and KTH, Royal Institute of Technology. Together they have around 100,000 students. 

Opposite the Karolinska Institute is the brand-new Karolinska University Hospital - ranked number 6 globally and number 1 in the EU. 

In the area, you will also find the Science for Life Laboratory, a national center for molecular biosciences with a focus on health and environmental research.

Join us for a guided tour in Hagastaden at 2 pm. We start at Karolinska University Hospital followed by Karolinska Institutet, SciLifeLab and Nobel Forum.

A presentation by Johan Weigelt, CEO of KI Holding, that will cover Karolinska Institutet’s innovation system and support, along with introductions to three deep tech start-ups that have spun out from Karolinska Institutet and are part of the Incubator program. 

Precision Medicine, Professor Martling

Professor Martling has spent the past three years leading KI’s efforts to implement precision medicine in healthcare, a remit that is now being expanded to cover KI’s overall work in life science. Over the past few years, KI and Karolinska University Hospital have effected several initiatives in the life science field, including the establishment of the Karolinska Comprehensive Cancer Centre, the Karolinska Precision Medicine Centre and the Karolinska ATMP
